Santa Barbara

Memorial Day Weekend feels like it was ages ago, and I don’t know about you but I’m already anticipating the next long weekend (16 days in case you were wondering). Even though Memorial Day has passed, today I’m sharing how Zack and I spent one day of our long weekend with a road trip up to Santa Barbara.

Neither of us had been, and as we asked friends and coworkers for tips on what to do and see, everyone kept telling us how much fun we were going to have. And they were right. The entire day, we kept saying “Next time we have to try that place” or “Next time we are doing that,” etc.

First of all, it’s a beautiful drive along the coast (and a relatively quick trip from LA). We got there around 10:30 in the morning, found parking on State Street, and made our way to the beach. We planned on renting bicycles to ride along the bike path on the beach, but ended up renting a surrey (basically a covered carriage that you both pedal and one person steers). I will say, they are a lot harder to maneuver than they look, and although fun, the 45 minutes we spent on ours was enough for the day.

For lunch, we walked out to one of the restaurants on the pier and shared a big bread bowl of clam chowder and an order of lobster tacos. Then we walked back into Downtown Santa Barbara and wandered along State Street. After some window shopping and people watching, we grabbed some ice-cream at the famous McConnell’s (and I’ll be sharing more about this delicious treat in my next post so stay tuned!)

In the late afternoon, Zack and I decided to head back towards the beach and rent rollerblades, which was seriously the best! We skated up and down the path along the beach, and even saw a seal playing in the marina.

There’s so much to do in just the downtown area, and I can’t wait to visit again. I’d love to take the train from Burbank to Santa Barbara and make a day visiting all the wine tasting rooms, or even rent tandem bicycles and ride along the beach again!

XO – Courtney
