After one of our favorite Mexican restaurants recently closed, Zack + I were on a mission to find a replacement. We were more than successful when we stumbled upon Salazar located in Frogtown.

The restaurant used to be an auto shop/gas station of some sort, which you can tell as soon as you arrive. The bar is inside the “garage” and all seating is outside surrounded by umbrellas, palm trees, and succulents. Definite “LA vibes.”

appetizers // chips + salsa + guac [with sunflower seeds + cilantro + red onion + queso fresco]

tacos // carne asada [with salsa + cilantro + red onion] + pollo asado [with salsa + cilantro + pickled red onion] + vegetable [with grilled cauliflower + carrots + roasted fennel + pickled ramps]

sides // street corn 

Overall thoughts: Good food and perfect for sharing with a group, so you can try a little of everything. Drinks were definite winners, and I can’t wait to go back and try the prickly pear margarita when it’s back in season. The weather was perfect when we went but they have umbrellas and trees that provide shade if it’s hot, and heaters for the cooler nights.
