Happy 2018! You may want to scroll down to the recipe first, and make yourself a cup of this Chai Hot Chocolate because today’s post is a little longer than usual, AND you may find yourself doing a little reflection and goal setting too.
Before I get into my 2018 goals + resolutions, let me talk about the Chai Hot Chocolate. I actually used to not like hot chocolate, but that’s because my version was a packet of cocoa mix + hot water. Then, when I first started dating Zack, I was introduced to the magic little device called the Cocomotion. It heats + froths to perfection and makes the best cup of cocoa you’ll ever have. You can create different flavor combinations (traditional, peppermint, salted caramel), but then I thought. . .why not combine my favorite cold weather drink, chai tea, with cocoa?? Honestly can’t believe I didn’t try it sooner!
Now. . .onto the resolutions.
2017 was one for the books. I feel lucky to say that every year has been exponentially better than the last. I always think “How can anything beat this past year,” but it always does. And 2018 looks promising.
On January 1, I took the day off from social media. I did some serious cleaning (goodbye Christmas decorations), relaxing, reflecting, planning, and goal setting. It was a great way to reset + refocus my mind on a new year. Here are 10 of my goals for 2018:
TRAVEL NEAR + FAR // 2017 was a year full of adventures, from our European honeymoon to many trips around California. Hoping to continue the trend this year with a few trips in mind that I won’t elaborate on just yet.
MOVE MORE // Exercising + staying active are probably the most cliché resolutions, and Zack + I are generally good at having a consistent work out routine, but after the holidays, I definitely need a reset.
SLEEP MORE // I’m guilty of staying up too late watching TV or playing on my phone when I should just go to bed and get a good nights sleep. It really makes all the difference, and kind of leads to my next point. . .
PUT DOWN MY PHONE MORE // Taking Monday off of social media was refreshing to say the least. I actually just left my phone on my nightstand for almost the entire day. Not saying I will give up on social media, but I think making an effort to put down my phone during meals or in the evening (like going to bed instead of playing on my phone) is something I need to focus on.
TRY MORE // This is something I want to continue doing. Trying new foods, restaurants, hobbies, recipes, etc.
EAT SLOWER // Might sound silly, but I’m terrible for eating too quickly. Less over-eating, more savoring.
SAVE MORE // Again, something I want to continue doing each and every year. Zack + I are good at budgeting + saving, but I want to make sure this is always a focus + priority.
INVEST MORE // Yes, we save. Yes, I have a 401k. But I want to do more, Zack + I started researching + investing more in 2017, and I’d like to do even more in 2018.
PROCRASTINATE LESS // I recently read a great quote: “If it is going to take you less than 2 minutes, do it now.” That really stuck with me. How often do we leave a dish on the counter that would take less than 2 minutes to clean or stick in the dishwasher? How often do I get home from work and leave my clothes on the bed rather than hanging them up or throwing them in the laundry? These are just little examples of procrastination that we can fix so easily. Not to mention the bigger projects that we are all guilty of putting off.
COMPLAIN LESS // Everyone deserves the occasionally vent, but in 2018, I want to try and focus on the positives rather than complain about the negatives.
What are some of your 2018 resolutions? Sound off in the comments.
