Talk about a fun date! If you’re living in LA (or visiting and want to try something truly unique), Kato is the coolest “secret” spot.
I call it a secret because it’s just a little restaurant hidden in a strip mall, but once your inside, you’ll find yourself tasting a variety of flavors you’ve never considered. Kato serves up a tasting menu with Taiwan + Japanese inspired dishes. The menu changes every month, and ours consisted of 15 tasting courses. To be honest, I don’t even know what half the menu was, but that’s what made Kato so much fun!
I’m not going to lie, Zack + I were a little nervous at first. Going into a meal and having no idea what you will be served is a little daunting, but we ended up liking a lot more than we anticipated! You probably won’t love every dish, and this is definitely for the more adventurous eater, but 100% worth the experience.
You can check out our entire menu in the photo above, and see a few of my favorite plates below.
A. kato tea + strawberry soda
B. bottarga bite
C. tuna sashimi
D. tapioca fritter topped with uni (sea urchin)
E. corn porridge + egg + toasted oats + bacon fat brushed rolls
F. fried chicken wing stuffed with sticky rice + mushrooms
G. grapefruit sorbet
